This applies to both residents and non-residents whose OHVs are being operated in Arizona.

What is an Arizona OHV sticker or OHV decal?

The OHV sticker or decal is a sticker that needs to be purchased every year to allow your OHV to operate or run within Arizona. The sticker needs to be applied to the upper left corner of the license plate. The license plate should be clearly displayed on the rear of the OHV. The fees collected through the purchase of the OHV stickers are OHV user fees. The OHV stickers are not the same as OHV registration. Registration is required for OHV vehicles to be “street legal” (legally operated on paved and maintained roads and streets).

What is an off-highway vehicle with regards to obtaining the Arizona OHV sticker/decal?

Off-highway vehicles are any motor vehicles not suitable for normal travel on roads. These vehicles can include ATVs, UTVs, trail motorcycles, and dirt bikes. They are motor vehicles operated on unimproved roads and in areas that are not suitable for conventional two wheel drive vehicles.

Only OHVs meeting the below mentioned criteria can apply for an Arizona OHV sticker/decal:

  • OHVs are designed by the manufacturer primarily for travel over unimproved terrain.
  • OHVs having an unloaded weight of 1800 pounds or less.

Motor vehicles like pickup trucks, SUVs, or cars do not need (and will not be able) to obtain an OHV sticker.

What are the regulations related to Arizona OHV stickers/decals effective September 1, 2019?

Off-Highway Vehicle Decals

All types of off-highway vehicles (OHVs) that are designed by the manufacturer primarily for use over unimproved roads trails, weighing 2,500 pounds or less are legally required to have a valid Arizona OHV sticker/decal displayed on their license plate. The OHV decal allows the vehicles to run on public and state trust lands in Arizona. It also includes “street legal” vehicles meeting the above mentioned two requirements.

Nonresident OHV Decal

As of Sept. 1, 2019, nonresidents operating an OHV within Arizona State are required to purchase a nonresident OHV decal.

  • The cost of a nonresident OHV decal is $25 (with an additional processing fee).
  • The OHV decal needs to be purchased before operating an OHV within the Arizona State.
  • The nonresident OHV decal is valid for one year from the date of purchase.
  • The OHV stickers are not transferable. Nonresidents operating multiple OHVs are required to purchase OHV decals for each vehicle.

The sticker can be purchased only online through an Arizona Game and Fish Department portal account.

Resident OHV Decal

Residents of Arizona can purchase an OHV sticker/decal by paying a fee of $25 (plus a processing fee) through the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) offices statewide. They can also purchase through an authorized third-party MVD service provider like Arizona Motor Vehicle Express.
